Grundfos ensures reliability through Global Sourcing

Grundfos A/S has always accorded the highest priority to quality and delivery reliability. This applies in particular to working relationships with external suppliers. The principle of global sourcing is an integrated part of the Grundfos purchasing strategy, and it was therefore natural for Grundfos to give GPV Global Sourcing A/S the sourcing responsibility for supplies of PCBs to Grundfos Electronics, for example.

Steffen Sørensen, Purchasing Manager at Grundfos, is convinced that this approach provides Grundfos with the best possible working relationship in a number of respects, including:

• Much higher supply reliability in the global network

• The security inherent in having a supplier based in Denmark with the capacity to react quickly

• Savings earned through limiting the working relationship to a single supplier.

The ability to free up Grundfos resources that can be put to better use elsewhere.

Global and local collaboration

Grundfos operates with a single point of contact with the GPV Group, which functions as the local control unit in the global working relationship. Before production is transferred to sourcing partners in the Far East, it is commissioned and tested on the GPV's own production line. This means that all data are known and the production process has been thoroughly tested - an approach that ensures a solid basis for quality assurance.

All the PCBs manufactured through the global network are subjected to a final control procedure at GPV's PCB facilities in Denmark. The process includes aspects such as visual checks, microscopic inspection and stress tests. The control process is carried out in accordance with Grundfos specifications and is based on GPV's own experience with the production of the products.

Local contact is also important for development. Grundfos designers and design engineers can order prototype PCBs almost from one day to the next thus minimising the run-through time from the start of development to the finished product.

Grundfos Group

The Grundfos Group is has its headquarters in Bjerringbro, Denmark. It operates 61 companies in 41 countries, employing more than 11,000 people.
